Palmer & Pletsch Four-Day Pants Fitting Workshop

Thursday, August 27 – Sunday, August 30 | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Lunch break off-site from 12:30–1:30 PM each day

Tired of settling for "good enough" when it comes to making pants that fit?

Join Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructors Renee Bontjes of Sewing and Fitting Mentor and Laura Martell Kelly of Sew Inviting for an immersive four-day workshop dedicated to creating pants that truly fit your unique body.

Using the Palmer/Pletsch tissue-fitting method from Pants for Real People, you'll learn how to fit a basic pant pattern before cutting into your fabric—saving time, reducing frustration, and eliminating the need for multiple muslins.

By fitting and evaluating one pant leg at a time, you'll be able to clearly identify the adjustments needed for your individual shape, including crotch depth and shape, hip balance, and leg fit. From there, you'll transfer your alterations to your pattern, cut your fabric, and continue refining the fit as you sew.

Because no two bodies are exactly alike—and your right and left sides may differ—you'll learn techniques that allow for personalized adjustments throughout the construction process. You'll also discover how fabric choice influences fit and how strategic seam allowances provide flexibility for fine-tuning your finished garment.

Throughout the workshop, you'll receive:

  • A personalized body map to document your fitting adjustments

  • A step-by-step tissue-fitting sequence to guide your process

  • Instruction on selecting appropriate fabrics, notions, and patterns

  • Hands-on fitting support from two Certified Sewing Instructors

  • Demonstrations for professional finishing techniques, including zippers, waistbands, and alternative waistband finishes

  • Confidence in fitting future pants using the Palmer/Pletsch system

To make the fitting process as clear and successful as possible, we'll begin with a classic, basic pant style. We will provide the Palmer & Pletsch Butterick pattern B6845. As a student, you can expect to complete the pattern fitting process and achieve a fitted first pair in fabric during the workshop.

Upon mastering your initial pattern adjustment, you'll have the opportunity to apply those skills to a second style. This additional practice reinforces the Palmer/Pletsch techniques, equipping you with the expertise and assurance to tackle any pant pattern in your future sewing projects.

For the best fitting results, please choose a medium-weight woven, non-stretch fabric for your first pair. Recommended fabrics include lightweight denim, linen/cotton blends, linen/rayon blends, twill, and gabardine.

By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with the Palmer & Pletsch pant pattern fitted specifically to you, a deeper understanding of pant fit, and the knowledge to confidently sew beautifully fitting pants again and again.

Skill Level: Confident beginner to advanced sewists with prior garment sewing experience.

A supply list will be provided upon enrollment for this class (Palmer & Pletsch Butterick pattern B6845 is included with your enrollment). However, if you would like to fit another pant pattern, pattern recommendations, and preparation instructions will be provided upon registration.
