Quiltmaking Advanced Beginner II - taught by Joy Carlson

This is for an Advanced Beginner quilter who's looking to continue their journey, reinforce newly learned skills and learn new skills.

Enjoy individualized, focused instruction in a small class of learners who share your interest in quilt making.

Prerequisite: Demonstratable quiltmaking skills, or completion of S&FM Quiltmaking Advanced Beginner I class (or similar), or with instructor’s approval.

Advance Beginner II Quiltmaking

Project: A finished Desert Stars or Granny Patch

Pattern:

Choose from one of these two options. Fabric requirements as listed on patterns.

• Desert Stars (print pattern available to purchase at S&FM) – single pattern for a table runner, topper, wall hanging, placemats, or doll blanket; triple the pattern tomake a 33” x 38” baby quilt (additional fabric needed for optional borders).
• Granny Patch (PDF pattern for purchase via link) – multiple sizes in pattern, but only baby quilt or throw (with homework) could be completed within the class schedule.

This session will cover:

• Laying out the quilt blocks
• Quick pick-up methods for efficient quilt top assembly
• Batting and backing selection
• Preparing the quilt “sandwich”
• Machine quilting
• Binding, hemming, and finishing
• Design tips from an experienced quilter

**Rotary cutters, rulers, and mats are available for use in studio.
